Folks,

Voting time is here! Please pick two of the following ten definitions of UROPYGIUM that you like for any reason (perhaps, but not necessarily, because you think they might be correct) and let us know your choices by public Reply to this message:

1. The terminal segment of any segmented creature.

2. A hard, silvery-gray, malleable transition metal.

3. An urn made in the shape of the lower torso of the female body.

4. An elevated structure at the rear of a craft or procession from which signals are given.

5. Distension of the abdomen by gas or air in the intestine, the peritoneal cavity, or the bladder.

6. A plastic used in spaceships because of its high resistance to extreme temperatures and radiation.

7. The fleshy and bony prominence at the posterior extremity of a fowl's body, from which the tail feathers grow.

8. A small, bulbous swelling along the lateral roots of moisture‑loving shrubs, believed to aid in nutrient storage.

9. In a hermaphroditic organism, a thin membrane present during development that separates the male and female genitalia.

10. A genus of slime molds having small round sporangia with spiral elaters to eject their lids and disperse their spores.

These definitions are in order by character count, though a few pairs may be out of visual order in proportional fonts.

The voting deadline will be:

Boston, USA             Sun, Apr 12, 2026 at 9:00 am EDT
Chicago, USA           Sun, Apr 12, 2026 at 8:00 am CDT
Los Angeles, USA       Sun, Apr 12, 2026 at 6:00 am PDT
Wellington, N.Z. Mon, Apr 13, 2026 at 1:00 am NZST
Paris, France           Sun, Apr 12, 2026 at 3:00 pm CEST
London, U.K.   Sun, Apr 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm BST

and other times in other places, but you're on your own if you're in one of them. I may close the voting early if those who submitted definitions have all voted - so, if you didn't submit one and you want to vote, please vote soon or announce that you intend to.

If you realize on seeing the list that you know what UROPYGIUM means, please let me know privately,

It will reduce possible confusion if you could vote by replying directly to this message, not to someone else's reply that shows that player's votes (or by replying to someone else's reply to a third player's reply, which has happened).

New players are welcome. Just send a Reply to this message with the numbers of your two preferred definitions, as long as you don't know what UROPYGIUM really means. And please tell us your full name, as it isn't always obvious from an email address.

I don't believe any of them.

But I suppose 3 and 7 are popular so I'll follow the crowd.

Hi Efrem,

I am, once more, completely flabbergasted.
My votes go to the creative authors of:

2. A hard, silvery-gray, malleable transition metal.

7. The fleshy and bony prominence at the posterior extremity of a fowl's body, from which the tail feathers grow.

Cheers,
Hugo

3 and 7 for me too. Might as well give someone a big win.

3 and 7 to save thinking about it.

            3. An urn made in the shape of the lower torso of the female body.

            7. The fleshy and bony prominence at the posterior extremity of a fowl's body, from which the tail feathers grow.
