Everyone who submitted a def has voted, so I'm closing the round early.

Shani Naylor is our new dealer with a correct guess and four votes for her simple sundial.  Tony Abell is the lucky runner-up with an unnatural score of four. Three other players guessed the real meaning.  Johnny Barrs was DQ, as he knew the word from his former field of study.

A SOLANDER, aka a solander box, is a box for holding specimens, def 12.  It's named after its inventor, the Swedish botanist Daniel Solander (1733–1782), who accompanied Captain Cook and Joseph Banks on Cook's first voyage to the Pacific Ocean.  He later became Keeper of the Natural History Department of the British Museum.

Over to you, Shani.

It doesn't affect the outcome, but I voted for 8 & 9, not 6 & 9. That gives Shani 5 not 6.
