I gather it's a holiday weekend in the USA, which may explain why we have a rather disappointing 11 defs of the word SELLETTE, only one of which comes from my dictionary.  Please vote for your two favourites by public reply to this message before the deadline, which is:

        20:00 UTC/GMT on Tuesday 7th July
        21:00 BST in London
22:00 CET in France and the Netherlands (and South Africa)
5:00 PM EDT in New York
         2:00 PM PDT in California
08:00 NZST on Wednesday 8th in New Zealand

New players are welcome - just don't look up the word until after you've voted.

 *** SELLETTE ***

 1.  a salt grinder for use at table.
 2.  plate armor for a horse's flank.
 3.  small pocket hidden in the hem of ladies’ riding jackets.
 4.  the stool upon which a prisoner in France sits during his examination.
 5.  a small box with individual compartments for storing herbs and spices.
 6.  a set of artificial lakes created for making salt by evaporating sea-water.
 7.  either of a pair of large protective boots or gaiters fixed to a saddle instead of stirrups.
 8.  a soft cushion, esp. one circular in shape and not, like a pillow, of bag form, or thin at the edges.
 9.  a detachable pleated collar in linen and/or lace starched into shape and sometimes supported underneath.
10.  a plastic imitation porcelain used for tableware, manufactured in the UK and popular during the years following World War II.
11.  a small triangular board supported by two casters and a vertical pencil that, when lightly touched by the fingertips, is said to spell out subconscious or supernatural messages.

They say to go with your first impression, but I've changed my mind...and will probably be sorry. LOL!

I believe 4.  I don’t believe 11 but got to the end of the list without finding a second one I believed.

I'm partial to 1 and 3 (that doesn't mean either one is right).

I'll try 9 & 11

 9.  a detachable pleated collar in linen and/or lace starched into shape and sometimes supported underneath.

11.  a small triangular board supported by two casters and a vertical pencil that, when lightly touched by the fingertips, is said to spell out subconscious or supernatural messages.

6 and 9, please.

It's odd that the message inviting votes, posted at 11.18 yesterday by Tim Lodge, hadn't reached me
by 9 am today, though two of the voting messages had. This sort of thing seems to be becoming common
with this Google group.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.
