Below are a dozen alternative definitions for MELDROP, one of which is true.

Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to take the two-for-one Black Friday deal and choose a pair of definitions you'd like in your Christmas stocking.

I'll set a 48 hour deadline, Sunday morning at 9am PST / Noon EST / 17:00 UTC / 5pm GMT / 6pm CET and 6am Monday NZDT, but will close earlier if all submitters have voted.

*** MELDROP ***

1. A hybrid species, Hyacinthoides × massartiana, produced by crosses between the common British bluebell, H. non-scripta, and the Spanish bluebell, H. hispanica.

2. A bite‑sized confection of chocolate and marshmallow, traditionally set in clusters and served as a sweet snack.

3. A section of wall or a pillar between two openings, especially a pillar dividing a large doorway in a church.

4. A person who spoils a plan or project by meddling, even if their intentions are good.

5. To drop a glass or plate on the floor.

6. A fish roe cake.

7. A globule of molten sugar.

8. The drop of mucus that forms on the end of the nose in cold weather.

9. A recompence, compensation, or atonement for injury done to persons in holy orders.

10. A unit of refractive index variation, named after Austrian physicist Franz Meldrop (1839-1891).

11. A rare, epiphytic orchid (Dracula simia) native to the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes.

12. A brace that supports theatrical scenery walls and facades, hinged at the top to facilitate rapid set changes.

I don't believe any of them especially my own, but I'll vote for 6 and 9.

          6. A fish roe cake.
          9. A recompence, compensation, or atonement for injury done to persons in holy orders.

From the shape I think this word is dialect.

So I picked out things that a pre-20th-century farmer, hunter or fisherman might have needed a word for. But that left too many.

Next I threw out inherent implausibility, such as #9 (because spelling) and #10 (because not Austrian).

And finally I dropped anything with drop in it.

That left me with #4. Picking another at random, I take #8.
