NUMMS is a slang term for detachable collars. I had never heard the word before, despite having worn such collars at school and for my first few years in the Air Force. After we got married nearly 60 years ago, my lovely young bride never really got to grips with starching the collars, making them very scratchy. I developed a permanent rash on my neck and was quite relieved when the RAF introduced attached-collared shirts a year or so later.
Note for Mike S, scorekeeper: Johnny Barrs, who remenbers shopping for NUMMS for his father, didn't submit a def, but declared that he knew the word. I've included him as DQ in the results, but I'm not sure this should count as a round played by him.1. Trousers.
