I have ten Humpty-Dumptyish proposals for the proper meaning of odouret, along with one that is to be found, under that headword, in two dictionaries.

Please vote for two, by public reply to this post, as soon as convenient, but in any case before the deadline of Saturday 13 July at 09h30 CEST or before this timer: ⏱️ runs out.

1

Colorless.

2

A faint smell.

3

A type of early flush toilet.

4

The smooth prominence between the eyebrows.

5

Orkney. A small wool seine for catching fish in a stream.

6

A small perfume bottle containing less than 4 fluid scruples.

7

A faint or subtle scent, especially one that is barely perceptible.

8

Any of several Romanian red wines, such as Băbească Neagră or Fetească Neagră.

9

A small case containing smelling salts, usually worn on a bracelet or necklace.

10

A material that has a strong smell, especially one that is added deliberately to a material that does not.

11

A non-lethal weapon used for crowd control by the Israel Defense Forces and marketed to militaries and law enforcement around the world.

Please note that this is Round 3464, not 3463. There has been a chain of misnumberings and it would be nice for the next dealer to be able to start with the correct number. The actual last four round numbers have been:

3461

Shani Naylor

FISH DIVE

3462

Glenn Davis

JIIBRAAN

3463

Mike Shefler

POOCHLE

3464

Hmmm...2 and 7 sound so close yet different, but I'll vote for them anyhow.

Nothing to do with smells/odo(u)rs/scents. Too obvious. It doesn't sound Hebrew enough to be an IDF weapon. An Paul might well have found an Orcadian word, and an early flush toilet might have a name like that. (Flush toilets go back to at least the late 1500s. They could have been called anything back then.) So, 3 and 5, though 4 has a certain appeal as one of those "there has to be a name for that" concepts.
