Good morning, we have 11 defs for our word HUGHIE. Please vote for two by the deadline, which is around 36 hours from now.

               1.       A U-turn.


2.      Opalescent.

3.      The low growl of a male dingo.

4.      [WWII sl.] A vehicle for towing artillery pieces.

5.      A subtle, harmonic vibration in stringed instruments.

6.      [Brit. Mil. Slang] A hangover, especially one involving vomiting.

7.      The nickname of the Huguenots; the French Protestant group in the 17 century.

8.      Slang for a sudden mental blank that occurs the moment you begin to speak.

9.      A crooked real estate trick in which the price of a piece of property is raised after a deal has been made.

10.  (1) A liftable load-bearing axle on a truck or trailer that can be lowered to spread weight over a larger area or raised to facilitate turning, after its inventor Hugh McAllister; (2) a trailer or truck equipped with such an axle. 

11.  (New Zealand) The name of a supreme being held to be responsible for the weather, invoked (often humorously) to encourage rain, as in send her (also it) down, Hughie, or to provide favourable conditions for surfing, as in send them up, Hughie.

There are more than two that sound credible. So I already know it will be one those that I reject.

I think that 9 may have many names in different places. (In England it is legal, and common, and called gazumping). But I'm not sure Hughie is one of them.
