Apologies for the delay in posting these results. Closing early wasn't an option since one submitter didn't vote or DQ (other than a DQ before I announced rhat the word is unrelated to "loin" and that I would ignore any DQs received up to that point). Family commitments related to the current holy day season then intervened. Here they are at last, though.
According to the OED, "loyn" was recorded in 1575 as meaning a leash for a hawk: definition 1. Three perceptive players voted for it. One of those was Judy Madnick, whose strip of ground left uncultivated got 4 votes for a total of 6. She isn't the next dealer, though: Dan Widdis's strip of ground untouched between passes of a plow got 6 votes, beating Judy via the natural-score tie-breaker. The two narrow strips of ground were pure coincidence. Combining them would have meant contriving a definition of a narrow uncultivated strip of land created either this way or that way. I was loath to do that, though several players voted the 10-11 combo - perhaps feeling that I could have..
