Efrem,
Your email that you just sent looks like the problem is fixed. Did you do something different?

MY SIX PENNWORTH: It really looks as though you are dealing from
the site whereas everyone else looks as though thy are dealing
from their email client
It's as if the group thought in his case it had to block the sender name.
I wonder if that is it - Does anyone use a setting in their
mail-software (or their anti-malware) to hide their email address?
For some years now I haven't bothered to hide my email address in messages to the group - that is, I do not use some periphrasis like 'fred at bill dot com' Partly I do not bother to do it because software has been able to circumnavigate that level of deviation for years (back in the old CompuServe days we had to be proof against more than that) and partly because the group is a closed group and outsiders should not be able to see our messages (it is many years ago now that someone got into the group and read our email addresses and used them for spam - when it happened google admitted the leak and tightened up group security and such hasn't occurred since

Close, but I think it’s blocking the email domain, not the name.
In theory, I could send email to this group setting my “From:” name and email to any one of the dozens of idle players, perhaps voting for my own definition 50 times. I think the group would intercept those, put its own return email, and have all those votes be from “Player X via Dixonary”, “Player Y via Dixonary” and so on.
Come to think of it, are we really sure that’s really actually Efrem sending these emails? :-)

Are you using either of these SMTPs (port 465)? If one, try the other?
See https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-17067/
In any case, yes I believe you would have to sign up with the new address, not sure you can change email… but feel free to try.
Also you might try posting messages to the group directly from the googlegroups.com website, logged in with your account. I believe that would provide the correct “from” email address.

I am, in fact, using SMTP to send messages. I only use IMAP to receive them.
