This looks like a dialect word to me, and I know that Mike has a taste for the Wright stuff. If that is a good guess, that narrows the field a bit. There is a common idea that “Zomerset” dialect has lots of Zs, but maybe that’s just a novelists’ stereotype. I vote for 1 & 8.

They're all equally believable or unbelievable, depending on your point of view. I'll try 5 and 6.
