Good Old Boat was a very good source of information about old boats and keeping them sailing. GOB suddenly stopped publishing last summer after 155 issues. I have a bunch of them over the garage. The entire library of GOB issues was available to past subscribers.
Sailrite has now made all those digital issues available via the link below.
Did I mention it's FREE?
Sailrite has always been a good source for sailmaking and canvas supplies. They sell the expensive sail sewing machines that are the industry standard. I believe Steve Philabaum has one.
This is one of those things that will definitely make your life with boats much easier.

Welcome to the all-new Good Old Boat website! While
Good Old Boat is no longer published as a printed magazine, its legacy is very much alive; we’ve simply gone digital. There are no longer any paid subscriptions, and all content is freely available online. Our new team has been working hard behind the
scenes, and we’re excited to share what’s now available:
|
|
-
Over the years, GOB printed 155 magazine issues. We are in the process of posting all relevant articles from those editions.
-
New, original articles are being added regularly.
-
The Sailmaker’s Series, once sold by Sailrite as a guide to traditional sailmaking, is now available for free. This comprehensive series includes 15 in-depth lessons.
-
We’ve also included historical selections from a newsletter called Fabric Foils, an enjoyable look back at earlier days.
-
A major addition is the Saildata section, where you can search for your boat and explore detailed sail information.

|
We are especially proud of the Saildata section. This is the reintroduction of Sailrite’s Sail Plan data website, completely refreshed and expanded. New features include a calculator that allows you to adjust sail edge dimensions
and instantly view a rendered drawing of your sail.
|
|
|
When you find your boat using the search tool, you can also “Leave your comment” to share insights and details with other boat owners, a great way to expand the knowledge base and support the sailing community. Jim, Jeff,
Serghei, and Sarah have worked diligently to digitize blueprints, brochures, and sail plans from our hard-copy archives, many of which have never before been available online. We hope you enjoy everything the new Good Old Boat website has to offer!
