In NC, specifically, Durham, I was able to go to the local library and for 20.00 I could purchase every single form needed for a divorce. After filling out the paperwork where both parties agree, you file it at the courthouse. The filing fee varies, usually from 50.00 to 150.00 depending where you live. You are given a court date and appear and the Judge grants the divorce. Still cheaper than an attorney. Plus not so much hassle. I must stress that both parties must be in agreement and that property settlement is in agreement and child support is in agreement. All parties must agree. So for the couple who are childless and own no property except their personal property it is a God send. Easy to fill out the forms, not hard and not
a bunch of legal mumble jumble, simple, straight and to the point. See if your local library has these forms available. Might be a good starting point.
Yours and happily divorced,
Barbara
