What about a good divorce where you end up friends like you started out?

I hear all this legal stuff about divorce from all the lawyers who
stand to gain by it. I see the costs involved both for the government
and for the couple. Where is the discussion around what better
system could be put in place to those who seek to not be combatants in
a system that almost demands it. I don't hear about the emotional
pain that both of the parties have felt or feel. Where are the real
questions on how it got to be this way for each of them and would they
be willing to examine how that happened to avoid future heartaches in
other relationships. Don't hear much about this but I am determined
to find a better way. I have seen by working around the legal stuff
how much damage is done in that way. I am open to what others thing
too and welcome good dialog around that.
