When we talk of legal procedure , we usually imagine lawyers fighting
it out in a courtroom. However, there exists a process where
collaboration plays a bigger part than conflict , enabling the
opposing parties to reach an amicable settlement . This process is
known as Collaborative Law.

Collaborative Law can be defined as "a family law process enabling
couples who have decided to separate or end their marriage to work
with their lawyers and, on occasion, other family professionals in
order to avoid the uncertain outcome of court and to achieve a
settlement that best meets the specific needs of both parties and
their children without the underlying threat of contested litigation."
It is a voluntary technique and in this respect opposite from court-
ordered mediation. Although initially used for divorce cases only,
collaborative law is now finding application in firm , probate,
profession , intellectual property and physical hurt cases as well.
