I hope you all have been doing well. Once again, I understand that this email will be quite long, but officers please remember that it is your responsibility to read this information so that you may share it with the members you serve.

Division Updates

February Division Council Meeting 
The February DCM will be held after the Helix Annual Walkathon!

WHEN: This Saturday, February 10th, 2017

WHERE: Helix High School Football Field

TIME: 9 AM-12 PM

Helix Annual Walkathon
As many of you may know, this year, the Helix Annual Walkathon will be held to celebrate the funds raised for the San Diego Humane Society! So please ask your family and friends if they would like to donate to help. Any amount helps!

If you did not receive an envelope from the Helix board, please put your money in an evelope and keep track of who donated and how much they donated. On the day of the event please bring that envelope.

UCSD Key2College
One of our local Circle K Clubs is hosting a Key2College for ALL of Region 1.5! At Key2College, there will be workshops and presentations about everything that you need to know about college! From classes to balancing out a social life, UCSD has got you covered! Along with that, campus tours will be conducted upon request. The best part, this is all FREE

TIME: 9AM  - 3PM

Time is running out to register so if you are interested in going PLEASE sign up as soon as possible! 

In addition to your registration, you WILL need to fill out and bring a waiver and medial form, those can BOTH be found on the registration form!

District Convention
What is District Convention?
  • DCON is a celebration of service and an opportunity for you to meet more Key Clubbers to get more involved! Thousands from the CNH district will come together for a three day event consisting of spirit sessions and workshops about leadership and more. At DCON, the 2018-2019 district executives will also be elected. This year's theme is Service Safari! 
  • The event will take place Friday- Sunday, April 13-15, 2018 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV. 
How do I attend?
  • First, make sure you are dues paid, have turned in all necessary forms, and notified your club.
  • Second, make sure your club has chaperones attending. The ratio of 1 Chaperone: 10 Key Clubbers, must be fulfilled (can be shared between clubs).
    • Chaperones are not gender specific! 
  • Third, coordinate with your chaperone about transportation to the event.
  • Finally, you need to register for the event online, and reserve a hotel space.
    • On-time Registration (received by February 28, 2018): $174 
      • Talk to your club and Kiwanis for sponsorship and start fundraising NOW!
    • Late Registration (received by March 14, 2018): $214
    • Hotel Cost: $174/Night (Can be split between 4 people and are gender specific)

2) Then, you can register attendees HERE
3) After that, you can register hotel rooms HERE.

What can I do at DCON?
  • If you have decided to attend DCON, please be aware that there will be opportunities to take your experience to the next level, such as the district judging, SAA team, voting delegates, and district talent show!
  • The application for the talent show can be found on the CyberKey under Recognition > Contests > Talent.
Club Elections/Officer Information 
Officers, please elect your new club officers for the 2018-19 term before April 15.After April 15th, the 2018-19 term starts. It is beneficial to have them elected as soon as possible so there can be a large gap of training from the current club officers. Transition period is KEY to a strong foundation for the clubs that you serve!

If you have elected your club officers please insert their contact information into 
and have them send a completed service agreement form to me no later than April 1st, 2018
  • Service agreements can be found on the CNH cyberkey under resources>forms. The purpose of service agreements are to hold officers accountable, to higher standards of commitment and service, and ensure that officers are committing themselves to their duties.

  • DCON Creative Media Team Application
    • Members will assist in the following ahead of/during DCON:
      • Marketing
        • Assisting District Board in publicizing DCON.
      • News & Videography
        • Interviewing & filming DCON attendees. 
      • Photography
        • Taking pictures during DCON.

  • Additionally, a supplement is required:
  • (Required) 5 Key Club Photos, any photo of people at a Key Club or service event.
  • (Optional) 5 Miscellaneous Photos, any photo from your portfolio or photos that exhibit your skill.

Kiwanis Family & Foundation
  • Kiwanis Family & Friends Month
    • The month of February is dedicated to showing off the bonds you've made as a part of the Kiwanis Family!
    • Attached is a checklist, social media ad, and publication to participate in/publicize the initiative.
    • strongly encourage your participation in this initiative!
  • CNH Foundation Scholarships (SENIORS!!)
    • For all graduating, active Key Club members, this is an awesome opportunity!
    • The CNH Foundation will be awarding multiple scholarships to C/O '18 Key Clubbers.
    • Scholarships range from $1,000 - $19,000!
    • Only 1/3 of scholarships are awarded to the District Board, so members should definitely apply!

  • CNH Foundation Scholarship Webinar

    Service Projects 
    • February Spotlight on Service Program
      • The Spotlight on Service Program (SOSP) is a district-wide initiative to feature service in the CNH Newsletter.
      • Clubs can participate by hosting/participating in an event related to the monthly focus, taking pictures, and submitting to the app.
      • February's Monthly Focus is the Kiwanis Foundation.
      • If you or members participate in an event related to the above focus, please submit to SOSP!
      • In the past we've had Purple Ninjas featured in the District Newsletter, read by thousands of people!
      • The application can be found HERE & is due no later than March 5th by 6:00PM.
      • Wondering how you can participate? Refer to the February SOSP Guide attached to this email.

    Member Recognition 
    • District Judging Committee
      • What is this? 
        District Judging is an opportunity for members to help the Member Recognition Committee recognize deserving members for Convention in a timely manner. It is a privilege to judge. Judges will be selected by application and must be a current Key Club member in good standing, have general knowledge of Key Club’s levels, focus, and mission, and also the ability work with a team and make deadlines.
      • What will I be judging?
        As a judge, you will be reviewing various contest submissions (many of which require an e-portfolio) and applications submitted by members from within the CNH District. Contests you may be judging for will include those for advisors, officers, clubs, individual members, and service projects. You can view the various contests which you could possibly be judging for here.
      • How do I apply?
        There are two types of judging: District Judging (Online) and On-Site Judging.
        • Both applications are due Thursday, February 1, 2018 before 6PM.

    Sergeant At Arms
    • SAA Captains
      • What is this? 
        Sergeant at Arms, or SAA, Captains are selected individuals that play an important role at District Convention. All CNH District Key Clubbers are eligible to be a SAA Captain. Applicants must ensure that they are attending District Convention.
      • What will I be doing?
        Prior to DCON, SAA Captains will participate in team teleconference calls in which they will be assigned tasks and briefed on procedure for convention.

        During convention, SAA Captains will have a variety of assignments that will mostly revolve around the Code of Conduct, which will include enforcing dress code, leading SAAs with their shifts, and ensuring safety throughout convention.

      • How do I apply?

        • Applications are due Saturday, February 10, 2018 before 6PM.
