The Department of Geography
in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites
applications for a full-time, tenure track position as Assistant Professor in
nature-society relations or global change, and postcolonial studies or critical
race theory. The successful
candidate demonstrates theoretically innovative and creative new research
directions and methodologies, which complement and extend existing departmental
strengths in human geography, digital geographies, and global economic
development and change. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching,
research and service. The normal teaching load in the Department of Geography
is four courses per year and involves a broad array of teaching environments
from large introductory lecture classes to graduate seminars. Other
professional duties include an active research program, and service to the
department and wider community. The University of Washington, a recipient of
the 2006 Alfred P. Sloan award for Faculty Career Flexibility, is committed to
supporting the work-life balance of its faculty. A PhD or foreign equivalent is
preferred at the time of appointment in September 2014. Preference will be
