The Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position as Assistant Professor in nature-society relations or global change, and postcolonial studies or critical race theory.  The successful candidate demonstrates theoretically innovative and creative new research directions and methodologies, which complement and extend existing departmental strengths in human geography, digital geographies, and global economic development and change. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The normal teaching load in the Department of Geography is four courses per year and involves a broad array of teaching environments from large introductory lecture classes to graduate seminars. Other professional duties include an active research program, and service to the department and wider community. The University of Washington, a recipient of the 2006 Alfred P. Sloan award for Faculty Career Flexibility, is committed to supporting the work-life balance of its faculty. A PhD or foreign equivalent is preferred at the time of appointment in September 2014. Preference will be given to applicants currently holding a PhD or foreign equivalent. Apply: Send a letter of application and CV, including the names and contact information for three references, as a PDF file to Professor Steve Herbert, Department of Geography, Box 353550, University of Washington, skh...@uw.edu, telephone:  206-685-2621.  Review of applications will begin on January 3, 2014 and continue until the position is filled. The University of Washington is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. The University is building a culturally diverse faculty and staff and strongly encourages applications from women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and covered veterans

Thank you,

Lucy Jarosz
