Hey All,

Is there a way to add more daylight node sensors to the Viper component.  After double checking the idf file created by Viper, it looks as if the there is only one daylight sensor placed directly in the middle of the our floor surface.  I'd like to be able to add more sensor nodes to increase the accuracy of my daylight dimming.

Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

At the moment Viper can only place a single dimming sensor node -- and, unfortunately, EnergyPlus allows a maximum of only two nodes.  It would be possible to let the user specify these, but this may be driving toward false 'accuracy,' as EnergyPlus is not the best tool for calculating daylighting levels.  We're currently working on something better, which is having the Daylight component calculate the lighting schedule using Radiance/DAYSIM, and then sending the lighting schedule over to Viper.  This new link should be available soon...

Best,

Jon

Thanks Jon.

This new connection between Radiance/Daysim and Viper sounds promising.  It makes sense to have the two softwares do what they are good at, Viper for thermal and Daysim for daylight.  Looking forward to it.

Thanks.
