Ive decided I need a tablet, after week of hair ripping and hitting wall with my head, I've selected the least shitty device I was able to find for a reasonable price (below 200$), the Lenovo M8 FHD. And as with every Android device I ever had, I decided to root it immediately after a first boot (to verify it's working at all).

I'm surprised by the state of the market of the tablets (or any consumer electronic), these devices are mostly pieces of shit. I wanted 8 inch screen with decent resolution and reasonable amount of RAM. In the Czech Republic only 3 reasonable android manufacturers are selling tablets - Samsung, Lenovo and Huawei, and their devices are all the same, almost everything is a 10 inch beast, everything looks like that Apple tablet, all cheaper device have only 2 GB of RAM and all 8 inch devices were released around 2 years ago (this might be a result of Corona lockdowns). Try to find (in 2021) 8 inch tablet with USB-C, over 2 GB RAM, stereo speakers, decent screen and a root guide on xda below 200 USD, that's close to impossible.

I gave up looking for tablet with LineageOS or other alternative ROM port, decided I can live with micro USB (in 2021!) and selected the Lenovo M8 FHD (I hate what they did to ThinkPads, but I was really desperate after week of browsing tablet reviews). I was considering the Huawei T10s, but it's 10 inch and there were some issues with rooting mentioned on XDA, so I didn't want to risk it.

A rooted Dndroid device gives you a true freedom. You can get rid of all these stupid preinstalled apps, google spyware, install a system wide adblocker and mess with your devices with many ways. But as always, the great power comes with a great responsibility. It's very easy to brick your device, get it full of viruses,... So proceed with caution, I can take no responsibility if you brick it. As long as you can access the fastboot it should be possible to recover the device if you mess things up, but there's always risk of creating an expensive paperweight from your shiny new device.

Now we need to get the boot image from the stock rom. Download Lenovo rescue and smart assistant tool (windows only unfortunately), install it and login using your Lenovo account (oh, come on, why do I need to create account everywhere?). Now under rescue tab, click Rescue Now and select tab Power off mode, select your device (according to label on back of your tablet) and download the stock rom image.

Extract the archive and copy boot.img to your device. We'll use the Magisk tool to path the boot.img to add root capabilities. Download the latest release apk and install it on the tablet. In Magisk, click Install and select the boot.img you copied there. The Magisk will patch the file with root support. Copy the patched file back to PC (oh my, why there's no PC version? The android could be skipped here...).

Yes, such things can happen when messing with android firmware, you can get a bootloop, etc. But as we have the stock firmware, this can be easily fixed. First you have to enter the fastboot mode - power off your device and the hold power button and volume down together, once the Lenovo logo is show, you can release the buttons and the tablet will boot into the fastboot mode.

The primary reason I root my devices is the ability to remove all the spy and bloatware present in the device. To get rid of google, first install the F-Droid alternative app store and install some keyboard as the stock keyboard is tied to google apps. Add debloater, busybox and microG modules to magisk, install terminal emulator and run su followed by debloat. Now you can select apps you want to remove, be careful not to remove anything vital, else it will break the installation and you'll need to do a factory reset. List of my removed apps:

Rooting your Android tablet comes with multiple benefits, such as the ability to gain administrative rights to the Android operating system, the option to extend your battery life and memory, and the ability to install apps exclusive to rooted devices. The method you use to root your Android device is different depending on the make and model of your tablet, as well as the version of Android you are running. If you are running an older version of Android (5.1.1 "Lollipop" and below), you maybe be able to use a one-click app such as KingoRoot, TowelRoot, or One Click Root. If you are using an new version of Android (6.0 "Marshmallow" or newer), you'll need to use Magisk Root, which requires you to unlock your bootloader and flash a new custom recovery. This wikiHow teaches how to root your Android tablet.

I have this "old" Lenovo A2107 tablet which I rooted years ago (using a download from -root-mods-and-rom-discussion.661261/, tho running its root.bat script by hand from my GNU/Linux machine) and that worked fine.

/system/bin/su is still present, still the same date and size, still mode "rwsr-sr-x", still the same firmware (Android 4.0.3) so all looks fine, but when I try to run it from a shell, it just tells me "Permission denied".

I've found that on my Oneplus 5 (Oxygen OS, Nougat) it was sufficient to go to Magisk Manager app, open superuser permissions screen and toggle Shell (com.android.shell) to resolve the adb su permission denied problem.

OK, for those curious to know, I figured out what it was: the /system/bin/su program either accepts the request as-is (depending on who asks) or passes the request to some other program (Superuser.apk).

As it turns out, I still have /system/bin/su but Superuser.apk was missing. Luckily, /system/bin/su worked fine from the "adb shell", even though it said "Permission denied" when used from ConnectBot and other terminal emulators. So I used "adb shell" to get root access and manually copied Superuser.apk into /system/apps.

So, I looked at the system settings, and it contains a 'Superuser' section; in that section's own settings ( small menu ), there is a 'Superuser Access' option, which was set to 'Apps only'. I changed that to 'Apps and ADB', and then I was able to start an ADB shell, and from that shell, I was now allowed to run 'su'. :-)

I was successful in rooting my Lenovo Thibkpad tablet (183825U), and installed Clockwork Mod with no trouble. But after hours of trying to get it to work, and then stumlinb upon your site and succeeding, I went to bed prepared to continue installing the cutom ROM this morning. Only problem is my computer no longer detects the Thinkpad in the device manager! Anybody know how I can fix this?

Owners of the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet have long been waiting for a way to root their devices... in fact, the situation is so dire that there is a 5 bounty for root. Or was, anyway: Dan Rosenberg has figured out a way to root the device, and Justin Case and utkanos have managed to get ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) up and running without a hitch. Luckily, both rooting and installing CWM are quite simple (though you do need an SD card to install CWM).

It's just that simple. As always, be careful, especially if this sort of thing is new to you. The CWM should be safe, but is as-yet relatively untested. If you have any questions, head on over to the XDA thread and ask away there.

I purchased my tablet 1-09-17. nd used it maybe 5 times and i went to turn in aweek ago and it will not come on at all. I cant see the charging light on at all but it was fully charged before it wouldn't come on i have my bank statement witg the purchased fr Wal-Mart because i cant find receipt or box and i need the tablet for school what do u recommend

Have a similar problem. I have a 2017 yoga tab 3 10" was using it and suddenly it shut off. Battery was at 65% no lights, no vibration, no noise, no nothing. It is totally dead. I removed the case and checked every connector. Diconnected the battery blah . Tried every combo of power button tricks in the book. Nothing at all works. Any ideas apart from it's rooted? TIA

My tablet has the white on orange Lenovo logo on a black screen and says Qualcomm snapdragon at the bottom of the screen plus a circular orange and white logo. I can persuade it to start the booting process and various pictures replace the Lenovo logo and it plays a little tune - normal start up sequence. But then it returns to the state described above. I have tried any amount of pressing power button for several tens of seconds.

If your device is not turning on, try charging the device first. If this is not the root of your problem then you might need to try other methods of turning the device on. There is a troubleshooting page that addresses this type of problem. The link is : Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70 Troubleshooting

Hi, I had the same problem. I got a technician at my company have a look at it and he realised that most Lenovo tablets don't charge from custom USB ports that you can find in the style of Multi USB hubs or computer/laptop ports. The solution: connect the lenovo directly to a single USB wall outlet. This worked for me. Initially, I thought it was a LCD issue or a motherboard problem but, all it was that wasn't being charged correctly. I was using a multi USB port to charge it and all it did was hold the power, not charge it further. Hope this helps :)

My tablet does turn on I can hear the sound but the screen is just to a navy blue paralyzed state I don't know what to do I am leaving New York on Wednesday and I need it to work now or tomorrow please help
