Basic Question - Multilingual Text

Good Afternoon,

This is a very very fundamental question. When I include Hindi/Devanagari text in a DITA file, are there specific settings that I must take care of before it renders correctly? At the moment, all I am doing is setting xml:lang="hi".

My apologies if the question is too basic. However, I am struggling to render the Hindi content correctly through a custom PDF plug-in.

I have tried the Mangal, Aparajita, Kokila and Utsaah fonts with little success.

Hi, Janaki.

Are you using FOP or a commercial rendering engine such as Antenna House or XEP?

There are limits as to what you can do with FOP, and I suspect you are encountering them.

Try rendering with a trial version of either Antenna House or XEP. If it solves your problem, you'll have your answer.
