Dear District 5 Residents-
Here is another installment of news that affects the best district in Athens:
BOARD OF ELECTIONS
Early Voting
Don't forget that you can still early vote today the 15th and tomorrow the 16th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Board of Elections office downtown at 155 East Washington Street. Call them at 706-613-3150 if you have any questions. Please remind your family and friends that every vote in this election helps determine the future of our community.
Election Day
All precincts will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 20. If you are unsure of your precinct, look at your voter registration card, use the My Voter Page on the Georgia Secretary of State's website to determine your polling location (official records must come from the Board of Elections, so use this only as a guide and read the disclaimer), or contact the Board of Elections at 706-613-3150.

ACTV
Charter Communications has notified ACC that “on or after” June 10, 2014, they will be changing their cable TV service to an all-digital format. This will require all of its customers to have a set top box or other converter to watch any of its channels. As part of this conversion, Charter will also be grouping channels into what they call “neighborhoods” of similar programming. ACTV will move from channel 7 to channel 180 and will be grouped with The University of Georgia’s channel 15 (moving to channel 181) and the Clarke County School District’s channel 16 (moving to channel 182).
As for Mayor and Commission meetings, it is expected that the June Agenda Setting Session will be the first live meeting broadcast on the new ACTV location of channel 180, although some replays of the June Regular Session are expected to air on the new channel location. The channels moving to the current PEG channel locations are WPCH - Peachtree (moving from channel 9 to channel 7), WUVG - Univision (moving from channel 12 to channel 15), and WGN America (moving from channel 21 to channel 16).
COMMUNITY TREE COUNCIL
The ACC Community Tree Council has some upcoming vacancies on their board and they would like to encourage interested individuals to go to their website at athenstrees.com for more information as well as the online application.

SOLID WASTE
Possible Upgrade in Leaf and Limb Service
During our recent budget work sessions I successfully convinced the Commission to allocate funds in the FY15 budget to return to having leaf and limb service every 6 weeks instead of 9 weeks. That budget will be voted on in June and if it passes it will take a month or two for Solid Waste to purchase the equipment they need and hire some new staff. If everything goes well you should have leaf and limb service every 6 weeks starting this fall.
