SOLID WASTE

Automated Pickup

Automated recycling and trash collection trucks have arrived and are in training in Athens. The new automated trucks use a mechanical arm to pick up and bump roll carts into the garbage truck. The arms have been nicknamed “The Claw” and so far collection with the new technology has been much quicker and less labor intensive.

Leaf and Limb Schedule (updated 04.10.15)
UPDATE:  The leaf and limb crews completed collection in Zone 4 on Thursday, April 9th and will begin service in Zone 5 today, April 10. Zone 5 includes, but is not limited to, Chadd's Walk, Quailwood, Rosewood, Rivercliff Estates, Tallassee Oaks, Sedgefield, Hodgson Place, Jefferson Valley, Saxon Woods, Oconee Heights, Camelot, Cardinal Creek, and Westgate.  All residents in Zone 6 and the 5 Points area should place their material and storm debris on the curb immediately.

Due to the recent ice storm, the ACC Solid Waste Department is temporarily lifting curbside collection limits and set-out time restrictions for residential storm debris (leaf and limb material).  Please place residential leaf and limb storm debris on the curb as soon as possible.  The ACC Solid Waste Department will collect leaf and limb material under this altered service schedule until a full cycle around the community has been completed.

After the storm debris has been removed, the leaf and limb schedule will return to normal beginning in the 5 Points zone. The 5 Points zone follows Zone 6. The ACC Solid Waste Department apologizes for any inconvenience and will work as quickly as possible to get back to a regular collection schedule.

For further information regarding Leaf and Limb collections, including guidelines for pickup, please call 706-613-3501 OR visit www.athensclarkecounty.com and search “Leaf and Limb.”

TRAFFIC ENGINEERING

Traffic Engineering staff replaced six missing flags at the crosswalk location in front of The Grit Restaurant.  A total of 55 flags have been replaced for the program to date. After the six-month pilot project is complete, ACC Transportation and Public Works will evaluate the data for any recommendations as to continuing the project on Prince Avenue or utilizing pedestrian crosswalk flags at other locations. For more information, contact Steve Decker, Athens-Clarke County Traffic Engineer, at steve....@athensclarkecounty.com or 706-613-3460.
