Ohio University is planning to purchase two dual fuel boilers and
use highway spec ULSD for the oil.
The problem is that highway ULSD does not seem to be rated nor
tested for fuel bound nitrogen. ULSD should be very low in FBN, but
how low is the question....and will is stay that way. Some oils
companies are adding nitrogen back in.
I would appreciate hearing from anybody who burns ULSD in their
boilers regarding:
- Do you use a special spec or just purchase highway ULSD
- How is FBN specified...or not
- What your emissions test results were, especially for NOx and
PM2.5
