Sounds interesting. There is a very active Cloud Haskell community doing work on distributed Haskell stuff. I’m copying the distributed Haskell mailing list; you may want to join it.

Dear Simon,
This is Antonio Fernández Anta, from Madrid. We met at DISC 2012 in Brasil.
I just wanted to let you know that we have applied to the Microsoft PhD Scholarship program with a proposal that is close to your areas of interest. I attach a copy of the proposal.
Unfortunately I found out about the call about a week before the deadline and hence we had to rush writing the proposal. Otherwise I would have loved to contact you in case you were interested in a proposal along the lines of developing distributed systems building blocks under Haskell as we discussed. Maybe next year.
In any case, I would love to hear you opinion on the proposal. I know you are more focussed on functional programming, while the proposal is on OO languages, but I hope you still find it interesting. Be aware that it may not be fully polished.
Best/Un saludo
Antonio

Hi Tim, Simon,Thank you, but I must say that they are mostly Agustin’s ideas. And of course we would love to discuss about them!
Hi Tim,Nice meeting you.A brief introduction on our side: I have been doing research for many years on distributed computing, mostly at the theoretical level. I met Simon a couple of years ago when gave a keynote at a conference I usually attend, DISC, and mentioned the interest in building distributed computing primitives in Haskell. I must say that I have done little programming lately and have no experience with Haskell, so I hope I do not introduce too much noise.Agustin, on the other hand, has had a much more interesting life. After a long trajectory in industry, including founding a company that became multinational with hundreds of employees, he decided to do research. Then, he completed his PhD in game theory and machine learning last year. He loves programming but is also very good with theory. He is the one that from the very beginning wanted to look at the programming language issues of distributed systems, mostly coming from his industrial experience.Cloud Haskell looks very interesting. The line we were exploring was on OO languages, but we will see if we can contribute somehow.BTW, how do we join the Google Group? My messages bounce.
