If you take a driving skills test, you are required to successfully complete one of the following Impact Texas Drivers (ITD) programs and provide proof of completion at the time of your driving skills test. You MUST bring your valid certificate of completion of this program to the DL office or third party skills test provider at the time you are administered your driving skills test.
The ITD Program was developed with the goal of saving lives through awareness and education. This program is meant to educate drivers in an effort to reduce the risk of being involved in automobile crashes, particularly those caused by distracted driving. Distracted driving is one of the primary causes of fatalities in the United States, and this program shows what can happen when drivers are distracted while driving.

Third Party Skills Testing (TPST) authorized school
If you plan to take your skills test through a Third Party Skills Testing (TPST) authorized school, you must comply with the following requirements based upon your age:
1. Who is an entry level driver?
Answer: An entry level driver is an applicant attempting to obtain a Class A or B CDL for the first time, upgrade to a Class A or B CDL or obtain a passenger (P), school bus (S) or a hazardous material (H) endorsement for the first time.
2. What is the Training Provider Registry (TPR)?
Answer: The TPR is a system created and managed by FMCSA. The system will list all ELDT providers that are approved by FMCSA and allow ELDT providers to submit ELDT completion information to the TPR. The completion information maintained on the TPR serves as the proof that the entry-level driver applicant has completed the required ELDT.
3. What is a training provider?
Answer: FMCSA defines that training providers can include, but are not limited to, training schools, educational institutions, rural electric cooperatives, motor carriers, state/local governments, school districts, joint labor management programs, owner-operators, and individuals. These examples are not intended to be a finite list; FMCSA adds them to illustrate the range of entities that could potentially be eligible for listing on the TPR. In addition, FMCSA notes that eligible providers may provide training either on a "for-hire" or "not-for-hire" basis. Examples include motor carriers who provide ELDT at no cost to current or prospective employees, independent training schools charging tuition, and individuals who train family or friends.
7. To provide ELDT, do I also need to be licensed as a driving school in New York State?
Answer: If you are in New York State AND you provide instruction for hire, you must be a licensed driving school.
Visit Open a Driving School for information about applying for a driving school license.
12. What role will the New York State DMV play in the ELDT regulations?
Answer: DMV will verify that an entry-level driver has completed the required training before allowing the driver to proceed with testing.
14. What if a training provider needs to make a change to ELDT results that have already been entered into the TPR?
Answer: If ELDT Training Type results need to be updated or corrected, Training Providers should delete the original record and then enter in a new record with the updated Training Type, instead of editing the original record.
For the most updated information, check the FMCSA website. The information above is subject to change based on guidance from the FMCSA or any amendment to the federal rules and regulations.
State law provides that persons convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period may be required to complete a BMV-approved Driver Safety Program (DSP). Individuals under 21 years of age are required to complete a DSP if, they are convicted of two or more traffic offenses. When the BMV is notified of these convictions, a DSP course must be completed within 90 days or driving privileges will be suspended. Notification of this requirement is mailed from the BMV. A court may also require an individual to complete a DSP course and use this requirement as an alternative to suspension of driving privileges; however, the court order may not specifically require participation in a BMV-approved DSP.
Any Indiana driver can take a DSP course. The BMV will apply a 4 point credit to an Indiana Official Driver Record for successful completion of a BMV-approved DSP. The credit may only be applied once every three years. However, if an additional course is completed, the time period of the credit will be extended for three years from the new course completion date.
The BMV has approved a variety of programs. The DSP curriculum is available in a classroom, DVD or online format. All of the providers have the same curriculum standards and all courses are a minimum of four hours in duration. The DSP courses do not teach an individual how to drive, but rather the courses provide information that will help improve defensive driving skills. The maximum cost for any of the BMV-approved DSP courses is $55. All drivers taking a DSP must pay any fees associated with the course. Allow 7 to 10 business days for completion results to be processed.
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles certifies driver training schools and instructors who demonstrate knowledge of the laws and regulations about driving in Indiana. In the sections below, you will find a list of licensed driver training schools, as well as information on the requirements and instructions to become a licensed driver training school or instructor.
Online training is available as an alternative to classroom training, but students will still be responsible for the six behind-the-wheel hours. You may complete online training before enrolling at a licensed driver training school for behind-the-wheel training, but you should first confirm that your preferred driver training school will accept the online training program you have selected. See the below for a list of licensed driver training schools and information on course offerings.
All aspects of driver education instruction are outlined in the Indiana Administrative Code (IAC) 140 IAC 4. IAC sets the standards and requirements for all driver education training schools and instructors.
The application for the program will be processed within 60 days of the Bureau receiving the completed application. Approvals for Instructor Training Programs shall remain valid for a period of four years.

When you satisfactorily complete a driver improvement clinic, you'll learn defensive driving techniques that can help you avoid and prevent crashes. These eight-hour classroom sessions cost no more than $100 and are offered at sites around the state and as an online course on the Internet. Contact the court to be sure it will accept a computer-based course. Also, if you are under age 20, you may enroll in a clinic that provides online or classroom instruction.
If DMV requires you to attend a clinic, you must complete the entire eight-hour course. If you fail to satisfactorily complete the clinic within 90 days, your driving privilege will be suspended until you meet this requirement. If you are attending college outside of Virginia or you are a member of the military or a military dependent and stationed outside of Virginia, you may be eligible for an extension of the 90-day requirement. The extension will be granted only if you are in an area where no approved clinics are offered. The extension will last until a break in your schedule.
