Armchair PD: Edtech SIG, Vance, IATEFL and RAK Chapter Online and Live, 16 April

Please join EdTech SIG's guru Vance Stevens Online and Live from the
TA RAK Meeting on Sat 16 April at 11 UAE Time, 7 GMT, 8 BST.
In this pioneering TA presentation, Vance will be in RAK, linking up
with YOU at HOME and IATEFL in the UK.
(LISIG folk may remember that last Phil Cozens linked up from an event
in RAK to Vance's presentation at an event in Abu Dhabi ...)
This is an important initiative for TA as Vance is promoting Online PD
and investigating its relevance to TA and interest in such online PD
presentations. For the success of this presentation and for the
possible future of such 'armchair PD', WE NEED YOUR INPUT and
PARTICIPATION!
This is a great chance to try out Online PD in a known, friendly,
supportive environment and with lots of guidance from Vance and other
online participants.

But I hope I don't have to resort to a PowerPoint. What I want to do
is demonstrate how teachers around the UAE can in principle attend
sessions in distant emirates via their computers.
The software I plan to use is Elluminate here: http://tinyurl.com/y3eh
- after you join Learning Times (see below) use this link and enter
the 'Webheads Office' - sit back and wait for Elluminate to fire up.
To use it you need to register with Learning Times in advance (5 min
in advance is enough) and have a mic and headset -

If you are available between 11 and noon on Saturday (from home will
do) please join us, or if you know of any teachers who would like to
try this out, can you put me in touch with them. Anyone who wants to

for 5 min. It's easy (there's an audio wizard which helps a lot) - or

Then on Saturday I'd like to bring you into my presentation where I
can talk on the topic but mainly get your voices in on whether you
think this is suitable technology for helping our chapter events reach
out to one another across the emirates more regularly.
I am also in touch with people in Brighton where there will be the
IATEFL conference and I'm hoping to bring someone there online with
us. The event in RAK takes place the hour before theirs begins, which
could be good timing. And at noon our time you'd be able to carry on
watchng the plenary in Brighton if you wished.
