Dear distance-sampling list,

Just to let you know about a change in personnel here at the Distance
mothership: our long-time colleague Dave Miller is moving on to a research
position elsewhere. Dave developed the R Distance package and has been the main
source of development and support for the dsm and mrds packages for several
years. His research on density surface models has pushed that field along
considerably. He's been a great colleague and friend and we'll miss him here at
CREEM. We will continue to support all of our packages, with our team member
Laura Marshall being the main source of software support across all R packages,
and Eric Rexstad continuing to lead on answering your questions on the
distance-sampling list (with contributions by all of us, and you!). However our
ability
to develop new features will be reduced, particularly for the dsm
package, and bug fixes may take longer to produce. We all wish Dave the very
best in the next chapter of his research career.

With best wishes, Len Thomas
