Zero Area Error in Design Engine Log File

I am hoping someone can interpret and help solve the following error message from the Design Engine Log: "The projected survey region 1 has zero area. Check that you have selected an appropriate projection for this region.". I am attempting a point sampler with systematic grid sampling. The projection is Transverse Mercator, the coordinate system is North American 1983, and the projection is in Meters. The same error results from attempting designs using either a Study area polygon or a stratum polygon. Both layers appear to display properly in Maps. I constructed the layers using vertices.
