Dear Distance samplers,
I have had a read some of the older posts about which rangefinders have proven to be useful, but these have mostly been for terrestrial animals.
Does anyone have recommendations for a ranger finder that works quick enough for marine mammals at the surface? With waves and boat motion, our current rangefinder does not work well at all.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Raph

Hopefully someone on the list can offer some advice regarding rangefinders with rapid response for working with surfaced marine mammals.

Dear Raph,
The rangefinder from the Swiss company Vector is highly effective in accurately estimating the distance and flight height of seabirds. I suppose it will also work well for cetaceans. However, proficiency in its usage is essential, as it requires some level of experience.
All the best,
Dominik

Dear Dominik,
Thanks for your recommendation. These indeed look very hi-tech!
