Hi everyone,

I’m currently analyzing camera trap data using distance sampling. During data collection, we used camera traps from different brands, which have varying fields of view (41° and 50°).

I’m wondering how best to account for these differences in field of view in the analysis. Has anyone had experience with this or could point me toward relevant resources?

Many thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Paulina

The distance sampling analysis can take different camera optics at different stations via the sample_fraction argument of the dht2 function. As described in the help for dht2:

sample_fraction
proportion of the transect covered (e.g., 0.5 for one-sided line transects). May be specified as either a single number or a data.frame with 2 columns Sample.Label and fraction (if fractions are different for each transect).
Based on this information, create a data.frame with the IDs of your camera stations and the viewing fractions (41/360 and 50/360) associated with each station. Then pass the created data.frame to dht2 via sample_fraction.

Does that make sense?
