Good morning.
Barbados will have a by-election in the Constituency of St. George North before December 31st. This follows the resignation of Mr. Gline Clarke who served as the elected Member of Parliament for 26 years. During a Barbados Labour Party branch meeting on Sunday, the veteran politician, flanked by the Political Leader, Prime Minister Mottley and Attorney-General Dale Marshall, disclosed his intention to give way to fresh blood and to vacate the Seat. Two days later, on Tuesday, during a meeting of Parliament, the Speaker of the House announced that he had received a letter from Mr. Clarke giving notice to the House, that he would be vacating the Seat effective September 30th. On Wednesday night, the Barbados Labour Party announced that its Council met earlier that evening and approved and endorsed the candidacy of Barbados Workers Union General Secretary, Senator Toni Moore, as the Barbados Labour Party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election. During that Press Conference, outgoing MP Clarke endorsed Senator Moore. A date has not yet been set for the by-election but the Party announced that it would have its first Public Meeting since the announcement, on Sunday, September 27th.
