Domina is a British-Italian historical drama television series created and principally written by Simon Burke for Sky Atlantic (Italy) and Sky Atlantic (UK). Starring Kasia Smutniak as Livia Drusilla, it examines the power struggles of Ancient Rome from a female perspective.[1] The series premiered on 14 May 2021 in Italy and the UK. MGM+ renewed Domina for a second series, which premiered on 9 July 2023 in the United States. In April 2024, the series was canceled after two seasons.
Written by Simon Burke, the lead director is Australian filmmaker Claire McCarthy. Filming for Domina resumed at the Cinecitt studios in Rome in July 2020 following delays from the initial start in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show's title comes from the female version of 'Dominus', the Ancient Roman title for sovereignty, and from which the word 'dominate' originates.As pointed out by Nicola Maccanico (executive vice president of programming, Sky Italia), Domina is an international production with strong Italian roots. Ancient Rome is brought back to life, bringing together at Cinecitt the great international artistic values and the best Italian talents in the sector: the costumes were designed by Gabriella Pescucci, the production design is by Luca Tranchino.[5]
The series has received mostly positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 82% based on 11 reviews, with an average score of 6.7/10.[13] Suzi Feay in the Financial Times dubbed the series "Game of Romans".[14] Historian Tom Holland in The Times agreed that "The echoes of Game of Thrones in the first two episodes are strong, and surely deliberate...the rest of the series approximates more closely to a political thriller". Holland praised the show "the meat of the show is so enjoyably done that the odd anachronism hardly matters. The 20s BC, sandwiched between the suicides of Antony and Cleopatra and the maturity of Augustus, have never before been the subject of popular drama, but Domina demonstrates to brilliant effect how unjustly neglected they have been... Part of the fun of the series is seeing characters who became significant players in the later decades of Augustus's life as teenagers".[15]
Barrel and compensator fit were perfect. It's rare to find a factory gun with an appropriate compensator gap between the comp and the slide. No play at all in the stainless bull barrel - zero. Consistent gap around the comp.
The side ports in the comp are legit. The middle one is reverse canted (toward the shooter), I believe that middle, reverse canted side port plays a large role in helping the gun track straight. But also - with the size of the openings in the comp, there is a lot of surface area for gas to press against.
Using "Major" powder with 124's, the gun returns to center almost perfectly every shot. I wish I could video tape what my eyes see. The track is very straight and there is just the slightest dip as the slide returns to battery. A dip which would cause about a 2 inch drop at 10 yards if the trigger is pressed before your grip compensates for the dip. So, just a tad faster powder (like 3n38) or a tad higher power factor would likely be perfectly neutral after the recoil cycle
This one seems to have a perfectly tuned extractor from the factory. The only thing I did, without any prompting, was put in a fresh extractor spring. I usually put in an extra power extractor spring with any new Tanfo, but this one would not fit an extra power spring.
2.5 pound trigger as measured from the center of the trigger blade - with full power trigger and sear springs. Very crisp. It's obvious the sear angle was cut and polished after the sear was produced.
Came with an xtreme firing pin block fitted perfectly to the gun. A lot of people don't view this as a plus, but I don't want the gun going off if I drop it. I'm willing to accept just a tad longer trigger pull for a firing pin block.
I would prefer the slide to frame fit to be tighter. Considering how well the barrel is fit, I almost believe it is intentional to have a little play so the slide doesn't bind regardless of temperature/environment. But, I'd rather have a bank vault slide fit.
I'm impressed. Tanfos have always required me to do a lot of work to make them reliable. This Domina Xtreme did not. Further than that, it came from the factory with a supposed lifetime warranty. Will have to see what they ask me about ammo if I ever have to use it.
Overall, I can't think of a practical reason to buy a different open gun. I've shot everything. If you're just looking to compete with major loads in USPSA or IPSC - most all of what is paid for beyond this is aesthetics.
when you go to a match with a 2011, 99% of the other competitors are also running 2011's and can help you with whatever issues you may have come up and there are likely enough parts in various peoples bags to almost make a new one from scratch and for sure there are several backup guns that you could probably borrow in a pinch, shoot a Tanfoglio and if you have a issue you will have to solve it your self with whatever parts you brought.
Also, on all my extra wide safety Tanfos - I changed the safeties to normal wide like those found on the Stock II. I noticed a proper high grip would bump the safety a little too much on 9 major recoil - causing the trigger pull to be a lot heavier.
I just purchase the Tanfoglio Witness Domina Xtreme in 9mm. My gun did not come with optics or mounts or thumb guard. Can anyone tell me where I can order everything I need in the states here? Looking for nice optic mount, thumb guard, screws, etc. I would like someone that has set these guns up before so I can shoot this bad boy.
Hi, is the tanfoglio domina in 9 major a large frame? I was thinking of swapping the slide of domina to tanfoglio limited custom in .40 s&w. Hope anyone can verify it that it will fit and function properly.
I bought a 9mm Domina Xtreme a couple years ago. Is EAA an importer or do they modify from stock? Like the look, love how it feels in my hand but, the trigger pull is very gritty and it really likes short ammo. Does anyone know who is doing trigger jobs and machining on these pistols?
The grape variety bred in 1927 from the Blauer Portugieser and Sptburgunder varieties by Peter Morio (also vine grower of the Morio-Muskat variety) in the Palatinate with its voluminous dark red to blue-black grapes was added to the list of varieties in 1974. Today it is cultivated on 304 hectares mainly in Franconia, where it finds optimal growth and weather conditions. The total vineyards planted with Domina in Germany amounted to 338 hectares in 2022 and are predominately grown in Franken (298 ha).
The Domina grape variety is relatively frost-resistant and ripens medium late. It ripens later than Portugieser but earlier than Sptburgunder. Under good conditions, the grapes have a very intense dark hue, that is why the wines made from the Domina vine are often used as a cover wine for other red wines. The wines are colour-intensive, full-bodied and of a pleasant nature, mostly acidic and tannic. The scent is subtly reminiscent of blackberries - paired with a light smoky note. The tannin-heavy wines are matured in barriques or in large wooden barrels and are often served with any kind.
