I think it's worth taking a look at the BP Roadmap and weighing on efforts near and dear to us that we could also contribute some code to!

BuddyPress is WordPress :)
BuddyPress is basically just a series of plugins for a WPMU
installation that gives it some "social sauce".
Should be very familiar territory, albeit some new implementation
code-wise (but most of the concepts at least are very similar). At its
core, it's the same beast.

Excellent. I'm in. Been looking for the right social networking tools anyway, and this seems ipso facto.
Buddy Press + Distributed/Unwalled Gardens = Eden
