Dear Geoff and all members of the Disklavier Support Group,
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to you — to Geoff Ward as the group's owner, and to every single member who has contributed to building what is, without exaggeration, one of the most extraordinary musical resources I have ever encountered.
I recently joined the group and gained access to the archive of nearly 13,000 MIDI files. I cannot overstate how stunned I was by the sheer scale, the careful curation, and the sheer love for this art form that radiates from every corner of this collection.
This isn't just a database — it's a living monument to the player piano tradition, preserved by people who genuinely care.
I understand, perhaps better than most newcomers, just how many thousands of hours have gone into this work. The painstaking process of scanning fragile century-old piano rolls before they crumble. The careful renaming of files so others can navigate them.
The conversion between formats. The patient answering of questions in the forum. The quiet, persistent effort of keeping a community alive across decades, when so many similar projects have simply faded away.
This is not the work of a company. This is not driven by profit. This is the work of true enthusiasts — people who refuse to let beautiful music die simply because the technology that carried it is aging.
You are preserving a part of musical history that nobody else is preserving in this way, and you are doing it freely, with patience, with skill, and with love.
To Geoff Ward — thank you for stewarding this community with such dedication.
To every contributor who uploaded files, fixed metadata, scanned a roll, answered a beginner's question, or simply kept the conversation going — thank you.
You are, quite simply, the best community of its kind on the internet, and I say that having looked thoroughly at every alternative.
My piano will play music tonight that would otherwise have been forgotten. My family will hear performances captured a century ago. None of that would be possible without your work.
Please know that your effort is not invisible. It is not taken for granted. It reaches people in places you may never know about, and it brings real joy into homes far beyond your immediate circle.
From the bottom of my heart — thank you. Keep doing what you're doing. The world is richer because of it.
With deep respect and gratitude,
Evgeniy.

In the 13,000 midi files available to this group, the name of the song is included in the filename. Therefore, any midi player program you use on a PC or iPad, for instance, should display the filename. For some songs, depending on who created the midi file, the song name is also included in the metadata for the file. The metadata can be viewed in a midi editing program such as Cakewalk Pro Audio v. 9.
Now, if you are wanting to play the files from a USB drive connected directly to a Disklavier, you might not see the filename. It depends on which model Disklavier you have. I have a Mark IV and the filenames on a USB stick do display on the PRC 100 remote control. However, the PRC100 has the dullest screen you could imagine and, for me, this major shortcoming is the reason I do not keep my midi files on the Disklavier and do not use the PRC 100 to play files on a USB stick. I use one of 2 devices to store and play my midi files on my Disklavier. Both of these connect wirelessly to my Disklavier:
1. A Windows laptop running vanBasco’s Karaoke Player, and
2. An iPad Pro running Sweet Midi Player.
and can be used to select and play any or all midi files using the filename and to create playlists.
There is also a program available called DKVBrowser written by Kevin Goroway, which will install on a Windows PC or an Apple Mac, and will provide a much better view of what you have installed on the Disklavier HDD or on the USB drive. I have this installed on a Windows 11 laptop and, last time I tried it, it worked. However, I tend not to use DKVBrowser. There is a Google Group dedicated to DKVBrowser - https://groups.google.com/g/dkvbrowser
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Geoff Ward

If you open the group home page and click in the text above the conversations and under Welcome to the Disklavier Support Group, formerly from Yahoo Groups and then use your mouse wheel to scroll you will find a link to the midi file archive. If you have a mouse without a wheel you’re probably not going to find it.
