Mark II XG with DKCRW500 controller

My internal tone generator is not functioning - I only get the default piano sound.

PianoTone=ON (or OFF, either way)
Set Voice to something other than Piano
Using headphones

Also, the metronome does not "click" through headphones when the piano is set to silent mode. In regular mode the metronome does generate clicks through the DKC controller box - probably related to the internal tone generator not working - any thoughts?

Good morning, everyone.

Mike, I have a few questions:

(1) If you play an ensemble file from floppy disk or internal memory, do you hear the non-piano tracks when listening in acoustic mode? Do you hear the ensemble tracks when listening in silent mode with headphones?

In other words, is the problem isolated to silent mode?

(2) When using the Voice button in acoustic mode, do you hear a layered ensemble voice? In other words, is the problem isolated to silent mode?

(3) If you go to this location on the controller:

Function : MIDI Setup : Local

is Local (Control) set to On or Off?

George

I don't have any ensemble files that are not piano-only. Wonder where I might find true ensemble files with multiple instruments. I only hear piano through headphones or external speaker, and no metronome when in silent mode. The lights blink when metronome is on, but no sound.

Local mode On or Off doesn't change anything.

I think my internal sound generator is toast, I can't hear any of the internal sounds other than piano. Is there a way to factory-reset the controller?

Good afternoon, everyone.

Mike, my Disklavier is the original Mark IIXG Pro. Thus, its functionality may not exactly match that of the standard Mark IIXG, but I expect that the experience is very similar.

In recent years, I have set aside the original control unit (DKC500RW) in favor of a DKC-850.

Regrettably, the DKC-850 represents both an upgrade and a downgrade as far as the complete set of features is concerned.

In response to your issue (below), I did a test by reconnecting my DKC500RW. When using headphones, I can hear the various instruments (accessed through the Voice button). I can also hear ensemble tracks and the metronome through headphones.

The DKC500RW control unit comes with a built-in ensemble song called Opening. The song is very short and it includes 2 other voices besides piano. It is a good song file for testing functionality.

I have done the same test with my DKC-850. In this case, I can hear ensemble voices through the headphones but I cannot hear the metronome. Apparently the DKC-850 works different from the DKC550RW in this regard.

Mark, I recommend that you call Yamaha’s Piano Service department.

Regards,
George
