Hi all
I have seen mention of a Virtual PRC app for the Mark IV but can't find it anywhere on the web.  I need it because my pocket controller (PRC 100) has stopped communicating with the piano.  The Yamaha technical people are struggling to find a solution.
I am aware of DKVBrowser and that is not what I am looking for.  I need to access the Mark IV settings to change the MIDI input from USB to MIDI and I am hoping that the Virtual PRC will allow that.

Does anyone know where I might find the Virtual PRC?

Kind regards

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

The Virtual PRC "jar" file actually lives on the piano itself.  Yamaha used a (now-obsolete and unsupported) technique to fetch it and launch it automatically via an html page that also lives on the piano and you can find in your FromToPC share (I know we are tracking down how to find that in another thread, but I think it is solved.)

Because the technique Yamaha used is no longer supported, we've had to figure out how to get that jar file ourselves, and then get your java environment correct, and pass the correct arguments to the jar, and then it actually still functions fine.

We used to have a write-up on how to do all of that, but it's now very difficult to find because we can't search the archives anymore.  I'm going to see if I can dig it up for you, because it would be easier than researching this all over again and typing it up.

Yep, found it.

If you search the archives using the mbox viewer and find all occurrences of "prc100.jar" you'll find everything you need.

I’m fairly new to my disklavier, a DKC1500 if I recall. Can someone briefly explain what those thing in this thread does, as it may be something where I can get some added use from my disklavier? Sorry for such a newb question.

You can safely ignore all of this.  It is very specific to the MarkIV piano.

Hi Kevin and others

I found some relevant documents in the Disklavier Support Group Yahoo archive.  I have set up a Desktop shortcut with the Command line and Start in parameters as suggested, as follows:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -cp prc100.jar gui.prc100 -h=192.168.0.236 -p=3191 webremote -w=31910

and a “Start in” is directed to the folder C:\PRC100_JAR.

I have obtained the prc100.jar file from the piano and saved it in the Start in folder.

When I run the shortcut, an image of the physical PRC100 appears in the top left corner of my screen.  I runs initialization for about 30 seconds and then gives the message “PRC-100 is not connected with Disklavier”.  If I then press the “Disklavier Connect” button on the virtual PRC, it turns orange for about 30 seconds and remains unconnected, and turns white again.  Several repeated attempts at this have not worked.

Is it necessary, to be able to use the virtual PRC, that a physical PRC100 has to be installed?  I assume not, therefore, I’m stumped.

Any suggestions for a way forward?

Kind regards

Geoff

Hi again, everyone

Problem solved.  I actually made an error in the parameters of the command line in the shortcut.  I had checked it, too.

Many thanks for everyone’s help, particularly, Kevin, Jason and Sioniee.

To save anyone having to dig through the old Yahoo archives, I have attached 2 documents from the archive which helped solve my problem.

Kind regards

Good Morning Everyone,

I have just carefully followed contributions that appear to have been compiled by 4 very helpful and supportive group members: Geoff Ward; Kevin Goroway; Jason Bareham and Sioniee; to successfully implement the Virtual PRC100 on a Windows 10 computer running Java JDK-11. I am very grateful to them and any others, who may have contrbuted in a less obvious way, as I have a deceased PRC100. I make extensive use of DKVBrowser (thank you Kevin) but needed to access some of the fuctionality/settings that are not exposed within the DKVB. Until I joined this group I had no idea of the existence of a Virtual PRC100. Having this Virtual PRC100 is a game changer for me and brings my MkiV back to full functionality.

Best regards from a very happy

Robert
