dear friends
I would like to tap your knowledge on how to effectively quiet my Disklavier a bit more.
When the unit is in service mode i can run mode 5 which is both extremely loud and soft and recalculates the keyboard tables. Afterwards pianissimo is still quite loud to my taste. One could run mode2 for individual keyboard adjustment, or mode 12 / 13 for keyboard smart adjust. Which procedure is best in your experience?
Thanks!
Dirk

if you can't get it any softer you can use my midimod2 program to lower the velocities in MIDI files and play that way. if you do not use MIDI files you can convert to audio encoded midi with Mid2PianoCD an excelent program written by Mark Fontana. Of course the resolution etc is less with the encoded audio.

My LX piano is horribly loud playing many files and I do not like to turn the volume down as I might forget to turn it back up. So I process most of my files with midimod2. However the LX has exactly the same performance with the audio encoded MIDI so I do not have to worry about performance degradation.

Central to this issue is the voicing of the piano, the size of the piano, the position of the piano’s lid, and the size and acoustics of the room.

If the Mark III piano and room are such that you could have a live pianist playing background music conveniently, I would hope that you could turn down the playback level of the piano to a similar point. To get the piano even softer, I think you may need to consider baffles on the soundboard.
