The National Committee of Inquiry into Higher education, chaired by
Sir Ron Dearing
published its report, Higher Education in the Learning Society, in
July 1997. The
committee had been charged to 'make recommendations on how the
purposes,
shape, size and structure of higher education, including support for
students, should
develop to meet the needs of the United Kingdom over the next 20
years'.
The conference will examine the progress made over the last decade by
the UK
system of higher education as well as exploring current issues and
future prospects
for the system.
The delegate rate of £200 will include a copy of the book the Dearing
Report: 10
years on, edited by Professor Sir David Watson and Dr Michael Amoah,
to be
launched on the day.
