Great question. I’ve had mine up for about three years now, and it’s held up really well, but only because I stayed on top of a few things. First, if you’re somewhere with harsh winters like I am, definitely check the bolts and backboard after big weather swings—freezing temps can loosen things without you noticing. I also apply a rust-protectant spray on the metal parts every fall just to be safe. One thing I wish I did from the start was using a pole pad—it not only protects players from injury but keeps the base looking cleaner. And once a year, I take a soft brush and soap to the backboard to keep it from getting cloudy. Little bits of care here and there really help it stay solid and looking new.
