Subject: CHS Christmas Newsletter (PLEASE READ)

Hi to all our members,

We trust that all of our members are having a good pre-Christmas week. We are in Italy housesitting a house near Bologna halfway up a mountain. We have been here for the past two weeks. The first week was wonderful sunshine and then about eight days ago it began to snow and now the snow is very thick but the views from our windows are breathtaking with snow on all the trees and the mountains.
 

This year we decided to go for a retreat not a busy holiday and we love it here. Fiona, our house owner, is in India and she and her daughter will be spending Christmas at an Indian orphanage that she has been supporting for many years.

Talking about orphanages we would like to thank all of you who gave to the Home of Hope Orphanage in Kenya which is the work that Christian housesitters supports. Erick, the administrator, who is an ex Street Child sent an e-mail thanking God that, in his words, “my orphans will be able to celebrate Christmas this year. They are like other children now and they say thank you to all the housesitters who helped this to happen.” He will send an e-mail about the children's Christmas after Christmas which will forward to all those who very kindly gave towards this ministry.

When we first sent out some money to him following our initial letter we sent £240 from housesitters and an additional £160 from Ray and I and our family. Erick used this to buy to buy 2x 80 kg sacks of maize meal, sacks of flour, rice, sugar, oil and some soap. He sent us pictures of all the food and a photograph of the receipts. He kept back 11,000 Kenya shillings which is about £90 to buy fresh produce and some treats for Christmas day for the 130 children and staff. But the children were not going to get any clothes which some of them desperately need. Then following our second letter 3 members sent between them £180 and this has now been sent through to Kenya. So this will help greatly towards the clothing which is needed  and there will be a lot of smiles on the children's faces this Christmas. Thank you all who gave so generously.
