The Place Where We Are Right
Yehuda Amichai (Israeli poet)
From the place where we are right
Flowers will never grow
In the spring.
The place where we are right
Is hard and trampled
Like a yard.
But doubts and loves
Dig up the world
Like a mole, a plow.
And a whisper will be heard in the place
Where the ruined
House once stood.
This poem was featured in a 2020 lectionary essay by Debie Thomas on Journey with Jesus about this week’s gospel, as highlighting the assumptions that are often made about the woman at the well (as well as the assumptions we make about lots of things).

Some may remember a study series many years ago now, when we read the book Doubts and Loves by Richard Holloway, its title based on this poem.
The images are me indulging myself with a couple of favourites (from Scotland). The daffodils was one of dear Ronnie’s favourites.
