Although it's decidedly not winter, this reflection by Fr Philip Jebb
prior of a Benedictine Abbey is beautiful (Quoted in "Living on the
Border - Connecting inner and outer worlds", by Esther De Waal):

Winter has a message all its own;
The trees and naked, without leaves or flowers or fruit;
But the bare branches give us glimpses of the stars;
They reach their fingers to heaven,
even as their roots hold fast to the earth.
Linked by the strong trunk, giving interchange of life
symbols of our dual nature and inheritance.
