https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/commit/187e9d49274e59050ed3f08975cfdb34bd02d67b
has landed in Chrome
98.0.4701.0
This means SDP with a mid attribute
a=mid:<something>
that is longer than 16 bytes will be rejected with an error.
Given that Chrome was crashing when encountering such a mid in RTP packets we don't believe this will break anything.
See
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/webrtc/issues/detail?id=12517
for discussion.

I've temporarily raised the limit to 32 (still in M98) due to backward compat concerns.

After more than a year, the limit is going to be lowered to the spec-mandated 16 again in M110:
https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/commit/e2652e168a828ce5a868edac2b213138f82ef3b4
This should not have impact, there does not seem to be usage of this.
As usual, please test in Chrome Canary.
