what does resolution do in getUserMedia api

When I "Quick Scan" in https://webrtchacks.github.io/WebRTC-Camera-Resolution. I get the result.

When I use resolution which ratio is 4:3 including 160*120, 176*144, 320*240, 352*288, 640*480, 800*600, I find visible range is the same, only the video size changes.

When I use resolution which ratio is 16:9 including 640*360, 1280*720, I find visible range of 1280*720 is bigger than that of 640*360, and video size also changes.

So I am confused what resolution really means. I will be appreciated if I get it.
