Hey all,

Does H264 hardware acceleration work on iOS? Looking at this issue it doesn't seem like it: http://code.google.com/p/webrtc/issues/detail?id=4081

If not, is anyone starting to work on it?

Thanks!

if you're asking if webrtc currently can stream H.264 from iOS, the answer is no.  I think that story is about doing some of the legwork to make that happen.

if you're asking if iOS has hardware acceleration for H.264 encoding, yes: that was added in iOS 8 in the Video Toolbox APIs (see https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2014/#513)

Jeremy,

Thanks. My question was about the former. Would be nice to know if somebody has started, would be nice to tag team instead of duplicating efforts.

Cheers

Here is the WebRTC project issue that tracks the implementation of hardware H.264 encoding/decoding on iOS.
