AFAICT no specification and API provides a means to capture audio output to headphones and speakers.

The technical capability exists for *nix, *indows, *pple products, e.g., https://github.com/thestk/rtaudio/.

Why no specification or API to unambiguously capture audio output to headphones and speakers?
