testing with android emulator

I need to run the IMS open project for android on emulator using the IMSopen Source is there any available tutorial how to run the test on emulator?

 i meant is it mandatory to have a mobile device to test IMS application or could it be using an AVD ?

AS per Android website it is not possible to test SIP application using AVD but we need a real mobile device:
