Re: Koodankulam, Ground Zero
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/koodankulam-ground-zero/891712/An excerpt:
"Inherently safe or inherently dangerous? Merely months away from
commissioning, work at the nuclear power complex at Koodankulam in south
Tamil Nadu has been brought to a standstill over this basic question of
safety, where the arguments and counters run parallel to each other
without finding a meeting point after over three months of protests by
people in villages surrounding the plant."
Commentary.
The article's information base is obsolete and loaded in favour of the nuclear industry and if the Kudan plant goes on stream the cancer and other diseases will register a significant rise as with many nuclear plants.
My three comments are as follow:
The capacity is
185496.62 MW(30.11.11)(CEA). The science put out is obsolete, the reactor is designed for 1 mSv/year public exposure while latest ECRR 2010 real safe limit is 0.1 mSv/y.
Rights of people against contamination are violated subjecting them to unwilling involuntary exposure which results in annual cancer deaths in Tamilnadu of 32000 or 15 Bhopals (each Bhopal death is 2256 official, immediate aftermath) for the 9200 MW capacity. The present annual cancer death rate in Tamilnadu is 25000(Ten Bhopals). The worker design limit is 20 mSv/y while the ECRR 2010 recommends 2 mSv/y. See the fear? And to this the fact that the programme of nuclear power plants consumes all the power it produces and more leaving society in the lurch to create ever more capacity to feed the hungry grid. This creates ever more danger from the nukes until we land in terrible insolvency. Main stream media is not telling the public? The water use of the 370000 MW nukes in the world:2x
India dam capacity:Truth
See
http://abandonnukes.blogspot.com/The 376824 MW nuclear reactors in the world are irradiating annually some 600 billion cubic meters of water, about twice the capacity of all dams in India. We can see the effect of irradiation on sea water and fresh water by the way fish catch in all the regions of the world separately are going down, all of them correlating significantly with radiation from all sources of intense radiation in the world. See
http://deathdealersnukes.blogspot.comThe worst part of it all is that the power of the people is twice the energy capacity of the nukes of the world. The peak power flow through human beings is 700000 megawatts! A third of these people substituting nuclear power will dramatically bring down the epidemic of cancer deaths occurring throughout the West and not increasing the considerably lesser rates in other parts of the world. The people of Kudankulam are acting in
the right direction. Let victory be theirs and thus to all life(Click Google:Perfect Designs/Ramaswami Ashok Kumar).
One obvious risk that has been neglected by the designers is the danger of damage to an individual by internal radiation. According to the design safety limit based on the European Committee on Radiation Risk,ECRR 2003/2010, the risk of internal radiation is upto 1000 times more than the scientifically bankrupt Recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection. The usual explanation of the experience of people near nuclear reactors of high rates of cancers, heart diseases, miscarriages, preterm deliveries, infant mortality and so on is that the radiation doses are very low to cause such effects. Experiences of the locals so different from before the operation of the reactors are so common near such installations that scientific principles are in agreement with the people rather than with the ICRP rules which
have no scientific basis for
extrapolating external radiation effects to massive internal radiation caused disease phenomena.
