The following is what I see:

"Invading the Sacred is a polemical book published in 2007 and authored by a
group of Hinduism scholars and aficionados in response to the preceived
biased portrayal of Hinduism in the Western Religious Studies related
scholarship. [1][2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

The editors of the book are Antonio de Nicolas, Krishnan Ramaswamy and Aditi
Banerjee. The complete name of the book is Invading The Sacred: An Analysis
Of Hinduism Studies In America and the publishers are Rupa & Co.. [7]"

This is both inadequate and misleading. The book is not 'polemical'. That
word carries negative connotations. The book is a careful, sustained,
scholarly argument against what the editors and authors see as biased,
reductionist, disrespectful and negative presentations of Hinduism in
western Religious Studies courses and related literature, and further,
against the presentation of such a view of Hinduism not as an interpretation
which could be debated, but as Hinduism per se.

I am not saying that the wikipedia entry should take the editors/authors'
side in the controversy, but the entry as it stands in fact gives the
impression of taking the other side. It needs to be corrected. I daresay the
ITS Team will do this.

Secondly, the entry is too thin; it gives hardly any idea of the content of
the book. In my posting on the discussion website I had given a summary of
the substance of the book and its reception by the academic community.
Perhaps that could be drawn upon to some extent.

Best Wishes.

Hello Mr. Iyer,

I am not in disagreement with you. That wikipedia stub is just a
begining and it needs to be developed further. I encourage all people
here to contribute to it.

For those who may not be familiar with Wikipedia rules yet but would
like to contribute to the articles, here are some ground rules which
all wikipedia editors are required to adhere to:

1) WP: NOR - No original research is allowed even if it is true.

2) WP: SYN- No synethsis of opinions is allowed. Even two
independently published sources can't be synthesized unless the
synthesis is directly present in the referenced text.

3) WP: RS- All cited sources must be reliable academic grade or
atleast reported by mainstream newspapers and government sources.

4) WP: UNDUE: All opnions must be given proper weight. Fringe theories
must not be given excessive weight.

5) WP:Notability: The referenced text or subject must have been
referenced in a reliable published source (see WP:RS).

6) WP: NPOV: All viewpoints must be presented in a strictly neutral
language and weight.

I have noted that some of Doniger's cabal may already be active on
Wikipedia. There are good reasons to believe based on the edit
history, Jefferey Kripal might also be active there already under
different user names.

I hope you all go to Wikipedia and tap its power to bring symmetry to
the discourse which the academy insiders won't allow otherwise.

Regards,

NSS
