Leonard brought up some interesting ideas for what EUDEC could be doing, and I thought I'd repost them here for anyone interested. It would be great to hear what you think about this!

The more I think about it the more EUDEC should be, in addition to what it is, a large clearinghouse for Europe for best practises ... now eventually those best practices will be mostly European, but now they are everywhere ... and it is our job to pull them in and make them available. Basically, ( this is nothing new, especially to michael) Eudec is super  important for the isolated ... say the Romanian group ... to give them a point of contact and organisation. But as soon as there are a couple of schools in a country then THEY become a focal point form a chapter and get to work within their specific cultural and political environment. And again, Eudec central presents that clearing house for them and also offers a web of other contacts with a variety of European experience to share.

We should be collecting stories and info at a much greater rate ... there should be a dozen blogs attached to the web site ... of people starting out and their experiences and descriptions of spaces and photos on these blogs ... we should have a policy of inviting certain individuals to post a blog on the website ... to do with very specific things ... concrete info as well as working journals etc etc.We should also have a 'varieties of dem ed section' with basic descriptions of the varieties of dem ed philosophies ( Sudbury/Summerhill/IDE ) that exist ... and a 'working models' section where descriptions of living and breathing places are shown in some detail.

It will be great to have an on-line educational projects, that can be
joined by kids from outside of IDREC schools as well.
The projects would be helpful to create collaboration between the free
schools and between kids.

Can be many things:
- collaborative story writings.
- nature research
- books and movies review exchange
and so on
Thees and much more types are existing already in internet, but it
will be very helpful to to have some of them running inside of IDEC.
Maybe on it web-side.
Then it will be also possible to involve kids, not just adults to
participate in the development of web-community.
Noel and me are ready to work on any kids-project on IDEC web-site.

This sounds like a very interesting concept. But I think it doesn't make sense for us to be organizing this for the students. The whole idea after all is for them to organize themselves (at least to me). It would be interesting to think about how we can help make that kind of collaboration possible and available without taking the responsibility away from the students. Of course, ideally, there would be some students who are interested in that kind of thing who want to take charge of bringing the idea to other schools...
