Yes! This very much still going on, my girlfriend Marie and our friend Marie-Joëlle have been working hard at it with the kids there and the team in Niaréla participated to their first tournament last Saturday, in Niaréla (unfortunately we skipped to inform you in advance). ORTM was there though, which was great, you might have seen their report on TV? There was 4 teams in total, 3 from Bamako + Keleya village. Marie could give you more details if you need. 

 

Marie will be leaving in two weeks and I am not sure about Marie-Joëlle's schedule for August but actually the team should now be able to train by themselves! I should be back in September myself.

 

So yes, you can make an update, and let's see if we get some toubabous to play!

Subject: Ultimate Frisbee in Niaréla, Saturdays from 08h00 to 10h00

Dear All,

If you have read Les Echos (or Le Quotidien de Bamako) today, you will have seen on the last page an article about the Ultimate Tournament that took place in Niaréla last Sunday. It’s author, the Communication Officer of the Ministère de la Jeunesse et des Sports, also put it online on two websites:

If you are interested by Ultimate and would like to learn, training will take place on Saturdays, on the space of the Terrain des 11 Créateurs at 08h00 in Niaréla, starting this Saturday 29 of May!

To subscribe or if you have played Ultimate already and would like to have more info you can call Marie on 77827597, she will tell you all you need to know.

Hello Ines,

There is a new facebook page where you can find pictures and articles about tournaments (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1004766879#!/pages/Discs-For-All-Disques-Pour-Tous/131564060217962?ref=mf). You can choose some pictures and then I'll send them to you in a better quality.

As Rodrigue said, we won't be there at the beegining of August, Marie-Joëlle and Nicoals should be back after mid-august (if I'm right). But trainings are still going on every saturday morning in Niaréla ! Dieudonné is the captain and should be meet there every saturday morning (don't know if me sentence is understandable...? ).

People can contact him and maybe they will find a time and a place to play with other expats ! As they use to for some of them this year.

Thanks for sending the photos.  They look very nice.  I can piece together a tiny little article from these e-mails about what happened … but perhaps more interesting might be why you are doing this and what is the ultimate goal … and also make a pitch for discs … to be collected by who _________, when ___________, and where _________.  After August 14^th? 

 

In general I find that expats in Bamako are looking for a way to connect to other expats and if possible to engage with Malians in a personal way other than work (whatever that may be).  Ultimate Frisbee is certainly an novel way of getting involved with the community around you.

 

Please tell me more.)

Here are a few pictures that were taken with the Niarela team.
Nicolas and I will be on holidays until August 14th, but afterwards, we look forward to keep on working with the Niarela team, or perhaps help start a new team in a different neigbourhood.

Rodrigue/Marie: perhaps the Griot would be a good chance for us to put out the message that we are not only always looking for players, but discs as well.
